Sometimes I feel like I can write on my resume: I know how to put out fires. In some jobs, this is just standard practice, but should it be? Most times we are putting out fires because someone hasn’t done the necessary planning, but in some jobs there is no avoiding it.
PUT OUT FIRES
- to quickly deal with problems that develop and not being able to think them through
- Let me just put out some fires and I’ll call you back later.
- usually sounds like things are not under control or are chaotic
- Every time I call there it sounds like people are running around putting out fires.
- often used to express stress at work and general dissatisfaction about how problems are dealt with because you are not able to plan.
- I just feel like I’m putting out fires all day
