English Vocabulary Incel. The TV show, Adolescence, blew up Netflix this month and parents all over the globe are looking up the term Incel on google. If you haven’t seen the show, I highly recommend it. It highlights the struggle of both teenage boys and girls living in a blue collar neighborhood of England. One of the scenes in episode 2 had everyone wondering how these young kids were talking about something called incels.
INCEL
- someone, usually a man, who is INvoluntarily CELebate (meaning they do not have sex eventhough they would like to)
- a member of a growing group of men online who would like to have sex but are not and blame those who are having sex (mainly women) for their misfortune.
- many famous influencers, some who are self-proclaimed misogynist, promote these theories and have millions of male followers.
- In the show, Adolescence, the young boy was being bullied by being called an Incel.
- Incel culture puts too much emphasis on appearances and undervalues people’s talents, personality and kidness.
