English Vocabulary: Impose. After a week of imposing actions by the newly appointed US president it seems only fitting to teach this word. From executive actions to tarrifs, these are all things that have been ‘imposed’. Although the word usually means that people are not wanting or excepting what is being imposed, it doesn’t always mean that. Some people may be fine with an imposed law.
IMPOSE
- to force a decision about rules, laws, punishments, etc on someone or a group of people.
- The school felt obliged to impose some new rules about dress codes.
