USED TO
“Used To” refers to a past habit or a past situation that is no longer true.
Example#1:
- What did you use to do when you were younger?
- I used to run when I was a kid, but now I prefer to do yoga
Example#2:
- I used to run my bike every day,
- now I run every day.
You can also use «USED TO» to talk about facts that were true in the past, especially if they are no longer true.
Example#3:
- People used to buy food from the local shops in their neighborhood.
- There didn’t use to be cell phones when I was young.

“USED TO” + INFINITIVE
- I used to swim every day.
- I used to play basketball when I was younger.
Use “USE TO” + INFINITIVE in negative or interrogative sentences
- The car didn’t use to belong to us.

BE USED TO
BE CAREFUL!
Don’t mistake ‘USED TO‘ with ‘BE USED TO‘
“To BE USED TO doing something”, means that you are accustomed to doing something or to someone.
For example:
- I was used to working on a computer. (You did it every day in the past, but not anymore.)
- She’s used to stretching every morning. (She does it every day.)
NOTICE THAT!
Use ‘TO BE’ + ‘USED TO’ + ‘VERB -ing’
- They aren’t used to working late.
- He isn’t used to living in their city.
- We were used to listening to the radio with grandpa.
GET USED TO
Use ‘GET USED TO‘ to express that you are getting accustomed to something or someone.
This expression can be used with different verb tenses.
For example:
- I never took the bus before, but I got used to taking it after a month.
- I can’t get used to working on this tablet. It is too small.
- A: How’s your new job
- B: I hate the smell of fish, but I‘m getting used to it now.
